Dr. Diego L. Chou, Ambassador of Taiwan Embassy to Panama, visited the buildings of SENACYT, INDICASAT-AIP and CENAMEP-AIP accompanied by Dr. Jorge Motta, National Secretary, SENACYT, Republic Panama, on wednesday July 30, 2014.  They discussed about the possible collaborations between Panama and Taiwan in the area of Science, Engineering and Innovation.

Investigaciones

La investigación de la neuroanatomía y la neuroquímica de la ansiedad en modelos animales, podría ofrecer pistas importantes sobre la eficacia de futuros tratamientos farmacológicos. Para modelar la ansiedad patológica humana en los roedores, se ha desarrollado una gama de ensayos conductuales. Algunas de estas pruebas inducen una respuesta de ansiedad por medio de un evento nocivo, como por ejemplo un espacio abierto altamente iluminado. Otros integran un conflicto de aproximación-evitación diseñado para inhibir un comportamiento continuo que es característico del animal, como explorar, interactuar socialmente, etc.. La premisa básica es que los mecanismos fisiológicos subyacentes de la ansiedad en los roedores son similares a los mecanismos en los seres humanos, lo que proporciona un grado de validez a estos modelos.   • The team effort of Dr. Ricardo Lleonart,  Alejandro Llanes and Carlos  Restrepo on  L. panamensis genome,  got finally accepted and released by GenBank, USA. This is great dedicated effort of the above team under the leadership of Dr. Ricardo Lleonart. It is important to mention all the annotation of genome was done in Panama with the help of Cluster Informatics donated by Mr. Arturo Melo. Let us congratulate the team for their dedicated job and wish them good luck for their upcoming publications on this.Let us all proud of the team.
  • Our 2011 Ph.D student Carol Enith Vasquez has won best poster award in APANAC Annual meeting 2014.
  • Dr. Carmenza Spadafora has won International research grant from International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology- Italy  (ICGEB grant) of Euro- 45,000 for her research project on “Search for self-destruction signals in P. falciparam” .  Dr. Carmenza is the first scientist who won the ICGEB grant from Panama. It is great honor and privilege for INDICASAT to be proud of this achievement. We are proud of you Dr. Carmenza and wish you many more International grants and recognitions.
  • Plagiostoma mejianum, named after Luis C. Mejía, Panama, to honor his contribution to the taxonomy of the genus Plagiostoma, on endophytes: plant pathogens. The new species grows on twigs of Salix babylonica in Japan. This was published online in “Mycological Progress” last June, 2014. Let us congratulate Dr. Luis Mejia for the wonderful recognition and wish more success in future. We are proud of you Dr. Luis Mejia.

  • We are very glad to inform that Prof. Sambasiva Rao  has become the Rector of Acharya Nagarjuna University. Prof. Rao is chosen for this position by Government based on his academic performance and International collaborations. On behalf of INDICASAT AIP, we whole heartedly congratulate, Prof. Rao for the new position and wish him many mores in near future.
  • Great Honor to announce that Dr. Carmenza Spadafora has won APANAC-SENACYT award in APANAC closing ceremony 2014.

  • Luis Fernando De León, Ph.D has won grant (as PI) from Earth watch Institute. The amount of the grant is 35K and it is directed towards Galapagos expedition in 2015. The title of the grant is: “Exploring humans impact on the evolution of Darwin’s finches”  Let us congratulate Dr. Luis Fernando for this achievement and wish him many more International grants thus keeping INDICASAT at International Sphere.
