INDICASAT-AIP is a young institution with great potential for contributing to economic development and growth of a scientific culture in the country. In a few years, the institute has managed to recruit several researchers with doctorate level in key areas of biomedical research: natural products chemistry, biotechnology, immunology, neuroscience, pharmacology, toxicology, and parasitology. The high percentage of winning projects calls is evidence of the potential to raise funds to contribute to the generation of knowledge and the development of new technologies. The winning projects of calls, more than 50% work in collaboration with researchers from international institutions, placing Panama among the Latin American countries with the highest scientific productivity and international recognition.
Our main partners include the International Cooperative Biodiversity Group (ICBG), the group responsible for the discovery of molecules derived from natural products for the development of new substances to fight cancer and tropical diseases. We also collaborate with researchers and students of national universities as the Technological University of Panama (UTP), the National University of Panama (UP) and the Universidad Santa Maria la Antigua (USMA), among others, and research institutions such as Memorial Institute Gorgas of Health Studies (ICGES) and the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI). International collaborators include researchers from University College of London, Pennsylvania State University, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, McGill University, UNAM, University of Arizona and Scripps Institution of Oceanography, among others.
